Free Online GPA Calculator
Calculate your grade point average on a 4.0 scale, weighted by course credit hours.
Courses
Uses the standard 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, F = 0.0). Each course is weighted by its credit hours. Courses with zero credits are ignored.
What is GPA Calculator?
A GPA (grade point average) calculator computes the average of your course grades on a 4.0 scale, weighted by the credit hours of each course. Each letter grade maps to a number of grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), and the GPA is the sum of grade points times credits divided by the total credits. This calculator lets you add and remove courses to model a full semester or transcript.
How to use it
- Enter the grade and credit hours for each course.
- Add more courses with the Add course button, or remove ones you don't need.
- Your weighted GPA updates instantly, along with total credits and grade points.
GPA formula
GPA = Σ(grade point × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours). Grade points: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.
Frequently asked questions
Multiply each course's grade point by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours. A 4-credit A and a 2-credit B give (4.0×4 + 3.0×2) ÷ 6 = 3.67.
It uses the standard 4.0 scale with plus and minus grades, from A (4.0) down to F (0.0). Some schools use a different scale or add weight for honors courses, which this calculator does not.
Credits weight each course by its importance. A 4-credit course affects your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit course with the same grade, so the credit hours must be included in the calculation.
An F is worth 0.0 grade points, but the credits still count toward your total. This pulls your GPA down significantly, especially in high-credit courses.
No. This calculator uses an unweighted 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA systems that give extra points for advanced courses vary by school, so check your institution's policy.
